Choosing the Right Furniture for Your Deck
After a long and arduous process, you’ve completed construction on your deck and now you’re faced with the task of furnishing and decorating the area. You’re tired and not thrilled with the thought of spending a long time shopping for patio sets, and you would rather have some suggestions thrown at you for what sort of outdoor furniture would best grace the area.
Depending on how adamant you are about expressing yourself, there are a number of options from among which you can choose. How creative do you want to be? You could settle for something simple, like wicker outdoor furniture, and just buy a typical set of chairs and table, perhaps with an umbrella to shade you from the sun. However, after all the work you’ve done to create such a unique place to relax, it would be a shame not to continue the theme with something more individual. Adirondack chairs are easy to find and, while not exactly unique, add a certain style to your deck. You can also choose different colors that will make them less uniform. You can also get special chairs that are less common, such as dual seats or glider Adirondacks. There are even recliners that can be used for laying out and tanning.
You can also choose some outdoor deck furniture that is less common, consider something like chair hammocks, which used to be quite popular in the 1970’s and 1980’s but not frequently seen as part of a more modern style. This makes them interesting and unique while offering a great deal of comfort at the same time. Best of all, you don’t need as much space or any trees to hang these from as you would with a regular hammock. Glider rocking chairs are also great choices for something less ordinary to grace your deck.
If you are looking for something classy that shows your knowledge of wood products and your ability to afford imported items, teak furniture is the way to go. In fact, if you’ve built your deck with teak, it’s almost a given that this is the right design for you. Durable, weatherproof, and long-lasting, this hard wood is typically imported from Southeast Asia and has become popular for outdoor use, though the price can be somewhat prohibitive. Something slightly less costly that will still be impressive is aspen log furniture, not something commonly seen in decorating patios or decks but beautiful in color and style.
As you furnish your deck, don’t forget the lawn and garden décor that is going to dress it up. Small statues and other accent pieces are great, and decorative bird feeders make your deck complete, turning it into a home for you and your feathered friends. It’s the little things that bring together the entire design, deck and furnishings.
